Ocklynge School visits to Berwick Church
The Trust was pleased to fund a number of visits for the children of Ocklynge Junior School to have the pleasure of visiting Berwick Church.
Catherine, the Outreach worker for Berwick Church said she had great admiration for the exemplary behaviour, thoughtfulness, curiosity and enthusiasm of the children. They really were a delight.
The highlights of the visit:
The first gasp from one of the pupils upon looking at the view from the church; “What an amazing view!” Another said it made them feel “free”, when asked for an adjective to describe the view.
The boy spending his lunch time sketching as he was so engrossed. What a stunning sketch he made. He said I could post it on our Instagram.
Another child who was so very polite an helpful in putting back the chairs. She also put a lot of thought into the questions about the paintings.
One child who persisted in trying to capture the images of the three servicemen. She was not going to give up, despite it being a challenge to draw. We had an interesting discussion about D Day, and she seemed interested (and affected) in knowing that the soldier in the painting had not survived. She was keen to have a postcard of that painting.
